Holiday cheer

Young boy patient outside on a fall day.

No one wants to be in the hospital over the holidays, especially a little boy worried whether Santa would find him.

“Miles was still at UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital over Christmas and to a 6-year-old that was devastating,” said Miles’s mom. “He wasn’t feeling good and on top of that was very sad to be missing Christmas at home with his little brother, Sam. The Child Life Specialist and pediatric staff helped lift his spirits by bringing holiday crafts and activities that we used to decorate his room for Santa. He even got a special visit from The Grinch and Mr. and Mrs. Claus with a gift bag filled with toys and books for him to keep. We feel very lucky that we had caring nurses, providers, respiratory staff, and many others that provided compassionate care to Miles and also made sure as parents we were doing okay too.”

Thanks to the teams at UW Health and American Family Children’s Hospital, Miles recovered and was soon back to thriving as a busy 6-year-old just in time to celebrate a new year of adventure and sports. When you donate to SwedishAmerican Health Foundation, you ensure that local children like Miles receive compassionate, remarkable care close to home when they need it.
